Where There's Smoke, There's Fire (Open) OMKnMB6
The coldest it has been yet, the snow has started to fall. The winds make it even colder than it is without it. Food is scarce and the packs slowly start to deteriorate due to this.

Seraphina left her den in the early morning when the air still reminded her of winter. Her thin coat didn't protect her from this kind of weather and she began to shiver. Finding a path that kept her in the light more then any of the others, she trotted off towards the Maya River. The black patches all over her body warmed her and the morning air warmed as the sun rose even further. After a bit of slow going, the path that she had picked wasn't used as often and so there were many overgrown patches that she had to push through, she arrived at the river. Following the current, she moved south and found a nice place where she could practice her element. Gathering some sticks and bark that wasn't too wet, she built a little tower very carefully, the taste of sticks was normal to her now. Finished, she sat down, sealed her eyes and began to focus, concentrating on the warmth of that first spark. This used to be the hardest part of being her craft when she was younger, starting something from nothing. But now she knew better, she knew that controlling this beast once she let it out of its cage was the hard part. That's why she gave it plenty of fuel, but built the fire on cold slate that wouldn't catch fire. She also used the river as extra protection, ready to shove the whole thing into the rushing waters.

The fire took her offerings and began to burn, smoke rising and letting her know that it was here. She slowly opened her eyes, almost in a trance. Gently, she made the fire grow and move up, the fire reached high at her asking. She manipulated it, even playing with for a few minutes before she needed to pause and reenter herself. She centered herself, preparing to go back to fire bending after a few more breaths.

Arrow began to lap up water in the river, it was fresh, clear, and full of small fish. As he lifted his head he smelled smoke, but also another scent close to it. It had been another canine he wondered if the canine was in trouble and began to walk in the direction. As he stopped he stop there as he watched a African wild dog amazed. Then he approached the dog with his ears and tail straight, "Hello There".

Where There's Smoke, There's Fire (Open) Empty Re: Where There's Smoke, There's Fire (Open)

Seraphina was very surprised to hear the voice of another and the concentration she had held a moment before broke and the flame returned to its natural, wild state. She frowned at it, deciding that it was safe enough, she turned her attention to the other wolf. Realizing it was her Alpha, she avoided eye contact and her body curled in on itself. His name was Arrow and she was slightly scared of him, he was a male and obviously dominant as an Alpha should be, both things that frightened her. She hadn't interacted with him much more then needed and couldn't remember any moments in which she had been one and one with him. Fear spiked in her and the fire reacted accordingly, jumping and shrinking alternately.

Greetings Alpha Arrow, I didn't expect to see anyone out her...

Her voice trailed off, unsure of where she was going to say. She didn't like working with fire around her own pack or anyone she cared about. The fear of burning them was seared into her psyche and she couldn't get rid of it no matter how far away she was from her pack lands or how many precautions she took. This horror took hold of her and she spun on her fire, stomping it out with her paws, using her abilities to keep it from burning her.

I'm sorry, I was just practicing...

Arrow glanced back at the river as it made a swoosh sound and tobbled back down on each other with every wave. The river was getting rough, but why? Not caring anymore his attention on the river quickly turned back to Seraphina who seemed a bit submissive. He did not mind and lowered his tail flat onto the ground as he sat, feeling no threat from the female. He then dipped his head in greetings, "Yes, I have come for a fresh drink" he said with a deep voice glancing at the river. As she blew in small flames arrow stood up and stepped back from her flattening his ears. As she stomped it out he sat where he was. "It is fine I am glad that you have decided to train outside the camp, do not let me stand in your way." He said this as if he was giving her permission to practice at that exact moment. As he flicked his ear he layed down.

Where There's Smoke, There's Fire (Open) Empty Re: Where There's Smoke, There's Fire (Open)

Oh...

She was surprised by his response, although logically not every wolf was going to be a total ass to her, that's what her anxiety told her was going to happen. She was so used to being a doormat that even when she didn't need to be one and no one was walking over her, she was still stuck in the ever submissive position of letting everyone trample all over her. Him lowering herself, caused her to tuck her tail under her even further, scared to act higher then him. She didn't want to ruin her position in this pack and this was one of the most important judges.

She turned back to her fire, not wanting to disappoint him with an unworthy show, but only dismal crushed coals were left of her previous fire. She looked around and all she saw were wet sticks and leaves, the mists of the rushing water doused all of the plant life around it. It would be more difficult but she didn't want her Alpha to wait. Quickly she grabbed some of the less healthy leaves and branches and stacked them rather carelessly. Her heart rate was too fast to manage the fire safely so she tried to ignore her Alpha's stare and take deep breaths. Sitting down on the wet slate, she closed her eyes and focused, her mind's eye focusing on the stack of tinder. Drawing in air she readied herself and then blowing out on the pile, she managed to ignite the sad offerings. Immediately she could feel the distaste of the fire as it popped and sizzled at all of the water in its seat, but with her urging, she gave it the strength to evaporate the water and burn a good foundation.

It doesn't like all the water that's why it is taking so long...

Her eyes opened as the words left her mouth and she managed a quick apologetic glance at her Alpha before she had to refocus on the flames. It was easy to get drawn in by their beauty so she tried to do as much as she could with her eyes closed. Leaning towards the growing blaze, she sucked in air and fire, then pointed her snout towards the river, she blew out quickly, causing a spout of fire to hit the water and disappear. She liked that trick, it was for the more advanced canine though because it could burn the inside of the mouth if it was too dry or the Elementor's strength wasn't enough.
